Chris

April 22, 2015 – 5:50 pm
Hi Suzanne, how are you and Lucky?

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:53 pm
Hey Chris, just finished evening meds…. chicken livers and pills yum

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:54 pm
(making gagging noises myself)

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 5:54 pm
Yuk

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:55 pm
I wish we were better in truth, I found a lump in his neck late Monday night… We will see Dr’s tomorrow for aspirate tests…

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:55 pm
(yeah but he loves chicken livers and will take all 8 pills that way)

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 5:55 pm
oh no! Sending good thoughts

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:56 pm
I am not thinking it’s a lymph node as it seems down lower, about two inches below the jawline, but something has swollen up

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:56 pm
we were just at Cornell/Oncology Thursday last week, all labs and exams were excellant

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 5:56 pm
praying you are right

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:57 pm
I hate cancer Chris…. hate is a strong word but i really hate Cancer

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:58 pm
he’s fought so hard, I am just dying inside

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 5:58 pm
i am with you. Still can’t watch the mesothelioma commercials without thinking of my baby girl

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:58 pm
absolutely

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 5:59 pm
so sorry Suzanne

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 5:59 pm
it’s been 27 months of ups and downs…LOL I prefer the ups

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:00 pm
Good evening, here’s Jas

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:00 pm
JAS!!!!!!!!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:00 pm
it’s late for you!

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:00 pm
I know what you mean…wow! What a battle you and Lucky have fought

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:00 pm
Yea, it’s late and I’m tired but I just want to say hello

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:00 pm
Welcome Jaz. Thanks for joining us.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:01 pm
I am thrilled to see you you just made my night my friend!

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:01 pm
hello Jas…welcome

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:01 pm
I’m happy to have found your circle. You know, in Germany we don’t have this kind of support

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:01 pm
how’s Jeannie feeling?

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:02 pm
Jas, we are happy to be here for you. We are a first of its kind organization.

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:02 pm
She’s better. I put a iodine ointment on the hot spot on her neck yesterday and today it looks much better

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:02 pm
O I am glad for that Jas…

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:02 pm
That is great news!

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:03 pm
Lucky had a good day?

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:03 pm
(As a side note, Jas and I met in a MOOC class and she and I have kindred spirits in our pet challenges)

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:03 pm
Jas, can you share a bit about your pet caregiving?

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:04 pm
He did well overall Jas, ate, yelled at Tucker, knocked Plato down, smiled for me and I took a few pictures

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:04 pm
I think it’s a good idea to keep support circles for pet care givers. So I hope we will join this idea in future

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:05 pm
Well, my dog is Jeannie, she is an Eurasier breed and suffers from multiple allergies since puppyhood. She is now 8yrs old.

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:06 pm
So you’ve been caregiving for chronic issues for many years?

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:07 pm
As her immune system is so challenged she easily gets infections or skin issues. We made an odyssey with vets. As most give up as soon as they realise it’s about allergy.

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:07 pm
Yes. The worst is that I feel being left on my own. Can’t get real support by vets.

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:08 pm
Do you have a veterinary dermatologist?

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:08 pm
Ugh…such a shame…but that is why she chose you…because you don’t give up…good for you!

Guest_565
April 22, 2015 – 6:09 pm
We don’t have such experts, just general vets, who are mostly not very informed about complex diseases as allergies. Maybe in the big Cities you will find some.

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:09 pm
Good point Chris. We, as pet caregivers, never give up even when the going gets tough.

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:10 pm
Yes, that’s true. That gave me the opportunity to study a lot about allergies, immune system and dog nutrition.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:10 pm
It seems like we as pet owners sometimes need to know as much if not more than the doctors

Chrissy

April 22, 2015 – 6:11 pm
So true

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:11 pm
Hi Chrissy

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:12 pm
But the downside is, when Jeannie is ill and I have to go to the vet, he doesn’t believe what I say, as he says, Jeannie looks far to well for an allergic dog. He doesn’t know what I’m doing to just avoid that she looks that way

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:12 pm
Perhaps seeking a consult from a vet dermatologist from the states? Thinking that via email a consult might be possible. Just a thought.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:13 pm
Great thought Kathryn….

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:14 pm
So she always has been a bad eater. Then I feed her by hand, what she willingly accepts. Of course, she doesn’t lose so much weight as a dog who just is offered his food and when he doesn’t accept it – it’s taken away

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:15 pm
Yes, the idea of the Berwyn Vet Center was great. They have an awsome online library. I’m just reading the articles about allergies. Very interesting. I learnt a lot so far

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:15 pm
Along with that, is such a loving connection too… when I feed Lucky he seems to really appreciate that “connection” between us…

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:16 pm
Yes, when Jeannie lacks of apetite and I offer her food by hand, she looks at me and her eyes seem to say: Ok, I do it — just for you

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:16 pm
I hated having to hand feed, but I enjoyed the experience…if that makes sense….

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:17 pm
So glad you’re found some good info. The advent of internet certainly allows for more and more info!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:17 pm
It does Chris, it’s messy etc…but having our babies lay there, etc looking at us, it is so humbling and loving

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:17 pm
She sounds like a real fighter. Bless her heart.

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:18 pm
Certainly, most of my knowledge about allergies and nutrition I have from English books. In Germany it’s quite difficult to get the information, when you are not a vet.

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:18 pm
Talk about messy, we hand fed our Sallie Lou for quite a long time. It was messy but necessary. We do what we need to do…no matter what.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:19 pm
absolutely Kathryn… even if the choice product (chicken livers) is icky we gladly do it

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:20 pm
absolutely!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:20 pm
(I have learned baking them instead of boiling/broiling is less stinky in the kitchen BTW)

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:20 pm
Yes, I’d better prefer dry food, but jeannie doesn’t tolerate it. So I have to go with that mushy rice-chicken mix

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:21 pm
it does make a mess

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:21 pm
Yes it does.

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:22 pm
I’d do it all over again if given the chance. I miss my little Sallie Lou.

Guest_565

April 22, 2015 – 6:22 pm
Recently I started to fry chicken with vegetables, than power water over it and cook for a while. Jeannie accepts this much more better and for more than a week I needn’t to hand feed her.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:23 pm
I can fully appreciate that… we still miss Teddy…. I bottle fed him those last days too

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:25 pm
she ate for herself? Way to go Jeannie!

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:25 pm
Did we lose Jas?

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:26 pm
o maybe…. it’s after 1am there, maybe she lost internet?

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:27 pm
Wow…DBD has gone international!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:27 pm
Indeed Chris, I tihnk it has!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:29 pm
think too…sheesh!

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:29 pm
I’ve sent things to Canada as well. ;o)

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:30 pm
I never realized until Jas and I were chatting that we are very blessed in so many ways in this country, we have access to so much more information etc…

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:31 pm
And we are blessed because we have an enormous amount of specialists in Greater Philly.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:31 pm
Absolutely…. thankfully we don’t have to travel too far here either…

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:31 pm
That was surprising to me too…but when I think about it…up until very recently, we really only had U of Penn here

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:32 pm
I am grateful Cornell is only three hours away, they have such a vast group there…

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:32 pm
Yes an now we have numerous specialty hospitals.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:33 pm
Without them, I don’t know what we would have done all this time

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:33 pm
so hopefully change is on it’s way to Germany as well

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:33 pm
Here I’m

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:33 pm
I hope so, it would be great to have a global community of vets

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:34 pm
welcome back Jas

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:34 pm
Here I’am again. My internet connection broke – had to switch to the laptop#

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:35 pm
Jas, Lucky is going to Dr tomorrow for aspirates etc…

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:35 pm
I think in Germany the awareness that pet care givers need a support too, has to increase first. Then changes are possible

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:36 pm
I keep my fingers crossed that all will go well.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:37 pm
Thank you indeed…. I am hopeful as always…

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:37 pm
Yes, very lucky to have them

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:37 pm
testing

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:39 pm
How far have you to drive to the Dr.?

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:39 pm
Welcome back Jas.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:39 pm
It’s a long way from Germany

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:40 pm
this trip is local… only 5 minutes from home… they can do the aspirates and I trust them with my life, it’s the treatments and specialties they can’t do local

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:41 pm
Once we know what “lumpy” is, we’ll make decisions… I am desperately trying to not borrow that trouble yet

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:41 pm
Oh, that’s good. How does Lucky go with them? Jeannie is quite afraid of vets. She trembles like crazy and all her muscles are so tense, that there is not way to take a blood sample f.e.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:42 pm
He does really well, he acts like he owns the place in truth

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:42 pm
likes the car rides for short trips

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:42 pm
Good for him!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:42 pm
he loves all our techs and drs, and for that I am again grateful

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:42 pm
keep positive thoughts as possible. I know it’s not easy. I just want to think it’s just something harmless.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:42 pm
He’s such a Rock Star

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:43 pm
I am going to believe you Jas…Lumpy is a nothing… (now that’s a mantra)

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:43 pm
Wow, that’s really great!

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:43 pm
made me smile…will be thinking of you tomorrow

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:43 pm
love it!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:44 pm
Thank you Chris…the hard part is sometimes not knowing

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:44 pm
I’ll be thinking of both of you. When do you have the appointment? Then I send you positive energies.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:44 pm
and then the fear of knowing

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:44 pm
In the morning before lunch Jas… I am not sure how soon they will have results, but we should know whether its a lymph node for sure

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 6:45 pm
i know what you mean

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:45 pm
10:30 Eastern US Time

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:45 pm
Think, not knowing is much worse at least for me. I can imagine the most horrible things then and in fact it’s never as bad as I thought at first

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 6:45 pm
The not know if the hardest part. Waiting for what you might hear was so overwhelming. Anticipatory grief!

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:46 pm
agreed to you both Jas and Kathryn… I can worry over a sunrise

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:46 pm
so plus 6 hours.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:46 pm
Yes, Jas…

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:46 pm
4:30 for you

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:47 pm
I’ll be with you

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:47 pm
You are awesome my friend, thank yo ufor sure!

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:47 pm
You’re welcome

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:49 pm
What are your guys doing at the moment, Suzanne?

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:50 pm
It’s getting quiet here, Jas, the kids are settling in for the evening and Lucky is sleeping in Hubbie’s office while he works…

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:50 pm
Jeannie is already sleeping. She had an exciting day – chasing squirrels

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:50 pm
did she catch any?

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:50 pm
Oh, Jeannie loves that – to sleep next to hubby working on his computer

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:51 pm
As long as she didn’t learn how to climb a tree – no

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:51 pm
LOL, I am happy she is feeling better, a shame she can’t run the field anymore though

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:52 pm
So far I’m convinced the rush had to do with the fields. On the tummy and back legs it’s completely gone.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:53 pm
We were not in the fields for two days now.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:53 pm
pesticides are weird and she is so sensitive, but happy to know she’s better

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:53 pm
Yes. No more mice chasing

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:54 pm
We have birds and squirrels that the pups are chasing along the fence lines (Lucky just watches and rolls his eyes)

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:54 pm
She has to wait till next winter. But woods are also exciting with deer and hares and squirrels.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:55 pm
He’s a wise guy

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:55 pm
he has my soul Jas… *** I hope its ok tomorrow

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:57 pm
I hope so too. My gut feeling is, when there were something like a increased lymphe node, the Drs had found it last week. I think they certainly palpated all the nodes sorowly

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:58 pm
I agree and am counting on that… It wasn’t there Monday morning but 9pm there it was…. and it wasn’t there Last week…

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:58 pm
Oh, right.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:58 pm
and all the blood work last week was normal so again i am hopeful

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:58 pm
So still better

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 6:59 pm
Yes – no signs that something bad was going on

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:59 pm
nope… not that we know if

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 6:59 pm
of

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:00 pm
and I have copies of the labs…i’ll take those with me tomorrow

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:00 pm
Can you describe where the spot is where you found the lump?

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:00 pm
Yes, good idea

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:00 pm
2 inches below the jawline, right hand side of the trachea

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:01 pm
Hi, everyone.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:01 pm
its loose and freely movable

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:01 pm
hi Denise

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:01 pm
As far as I know there are not lymphe nodes.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:01 pm
Hi

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:01 pm
it’s about the size of a grape and firm

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 7:02 pm
hi Denise

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:02 pm
What time is it Eastern now? I am in AZ

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:02 pm
right Jas, its below the mandular

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 7:02 pm
8:00

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:02 pm
mandibular…i am not good at anatomy

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:02 pm
Oh no, I got the time wrong.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:03 pm
how are things at home Denise?

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:03 pm
My problem child cat is doing well, but I’m losing my oldest kitty tomorrow.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:03 pm
awwww I am sorry

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 7:03 pm
oh no…so sorry

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:04 pm
I’m sorry to hear. How old is your kitty?

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:04 pm
He’s had kidney disease for almost 4 years, which I’ve treated. His kidneys tanked over the weekend. He’s almost 18

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:05 pm
I am sorry Denise, that so hard

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 7:05 pm
so sorry

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:06 pm
Yeah, it is. We tried IV fluids since Monday afternoon, but he’s clearly miserable and his kidney values didn’t drop much.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:06 pm
I lost my kitty to kidney disease too, some years ago. She was diagnosed with 5 yrs and the vet gave her only 6 months. But she really got 17.

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:06 pm
It’s amazing how well they can do with treatment, but eventually their kidneys just can’t keep up anymore.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:07 pm
She got also fluids then, but developed a lung embolism.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:07 pm
I’ll keep you in my thoughts tomorrow Denise

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:08 pm
My cat didn’t get any treatment, as the vet was convinced there was not help.

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:08 pm
Thanks, Suzanne. I’m bringing him home in a while, then his vet will come to my house tomorrow afternoon so he can go at home.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:08 pm
I’ll think of you too.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:08 pm
That’s a blessing that he’ll be home with you in those moments…

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:09 pm
That’s good for him.

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:09 pm
Love the vets that will come to the house for things

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 7:09 pm
Denise, we will be thinking of you tomorrow. What is your precious kitty’s name?

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:10 pm
Yes, I’m lucky I can get at home euthanasia. I work for his vets, so they will do a lot for me. My boy’s name is Fluffy (he isn’t fluffy, he was named by a small child and I didn’t have the heart to change it).

Chris

April 22, 2015 – 7:10 pm
I will be thinking of you as well

Suzanne Bonk

April 22, 2015 – 7:10 pm
I like the name

Denise

April 22, 2015 – 7:10 pm
Thank you all, that means a lot. I’m sure you know how hard this is.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:11 pm
A lovely name

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:11 pm
I wish I could help you.

Kathryn

April 22, 2015 – 7:12 pm
Precious Fluffy will be in our thoughts. You Denise will be in our hearts.

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:13 pm
O

Guest_637

April 22, 2015 – 7:14 pm
Have to go now, its a quarter past two AM – Im tired and have to get up early tomorrow. Thank you for the chat, it meant so much to me to got to know you. Looking forward to the next one. Good night.
